Oklahoma City University — Dean, Kramer School of Nursing

The Position:

The Dean is responsible for the management and success of the Kramer School of Nursing within the College of Health Professions.

The Dean works closely with the Provost, the President, and the rest of the president’s senior administrative team, and serves on the Deans’ Council. They provide leadership that ensures excellence in curriculum design, scholarly activity, instructional delivery, assessment, and outcomes. Additionally, the Dean is responsible for supporting an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion, and student success.

Reporting to the Provost, and with a dotted line to the President, the next Dean will take a fresh look at the School’s strategy and opportunities and will work with the other deans to position Oklahoma City University as the premier private liberal arts University in the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the overall operations of the Kramer School of Nursing in accordance with the University’s mission, core values, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides leadership for increasing student enrollment at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and supporting appropriate student retention efforts.
  • Plans and executes the budget for KSN, assuring that funds are requested for all necessary programs for the school. Assures that operations are executed within allocated funding.
  • Continuously works to improve nursing educational programs. Provides leadership in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the programs of KSN.
  • Works with faculty to maintain ACEN or CCNE accreditation and Oklahoma Board of Nursing approval. Works collaboratively with university departments to assure HLC accreditation standards are met.
  • Plays an important role in the strategic planning processes of both KSN and the university.
  • Assures that adequate provisions are made to advise nursing students regarding their academic programs.
  • Actively engages in fund raising activities for the university and KSN in accordance with Oklahoma City University’s Office of Advancement Policies and Procedures.
  • Assures that professionally qualified faculty for KSN are in place, that new hires are adaptable to KSN and university cultures, and that their qualifications meet professional accreditation standards.
  • In collaboration with the Provost/VPAA, actively promotes and supports faculty professional development, scholarship and clinical practice opportunities.
  • Oversees faculty workload and performance issues. Coordinates with the Provost/VPAA on such issues as the promotion and tenure process, faculty development and evaluation, and faculty overload policies.
  • Assures that KSN is organized efficiently to administer its academic and administrative programs and committees.
  • Maintains positive relationships and represents KSN with other academic and administrative offices on campus.
  • Maintains a presence in the local, state, national, and international communities. Represents the university and the school by engaging in public speaking and other roles, as necessary.
  • Takes part in overall campus activities as appropriate and/or as directed by university administration.
  • Assures that the Office of the Dean is administered in such a way as to foster responsiveness to students, faculty, university administration, and other administrative activities in the university.
  • Takes a leadership role in guiding KSN’s advisory boards and works as liaison between KSN, the university, and the nursing community.
  • Develops and implements diversity and inclusion initiatives aimed at enhancing the academic programs and the faculty profile of KSN.

Required Experience:

The successful candidate will possess a terminal degree in a discipline represented within the school and a minimum of five years administrative experience. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of innovation, the ability to lead change, a proven background of designing programs that support positive learning outcomes, the ability to collaborate within the college community and the public-at-large, and experience leading equity-based initiatives. A minimum of three years full-time teaching experience at the college level is required.

  • Active registered nursing license in the State of Oklahoma or eligible for licensure with the ability to obtain licensure within designated timeframe
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Respects the integrity of the varied needs of departments and degree programs as these relate to teaching, scholarship, creative activity, and service
  • Works in a collaborative manner with faculty, staff, and administrators in an atmosphere of shared governance
  • Possesses the ability to develop and maintain relationships with external constituencies including donors, alumni, and community members
  • Accessible and transparent in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and administration
