Heartland Community College — Associate Vice President, Accreditation and Assessment


We seek applicants for a full-time position in Academic Affairs to collaborate across the College in leading institutional accreditation and assessment functions. The Associate Vice President will also lead the College’s Academic Support Services, including Testing, Tutoring, Library, and Online Learning and Instructional Technology, as well as provide oversight of faculty professional development related to innovation and best practices in teaching and learning. This position serves as the College’s Accreditation Liaison Officer with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Responsibilities and areas of leadership include but are not limited to the following.


  • Provide consultation, expertise, and leadership related to accreditation and focused site visit matters, and work with College administrators, faculty, and staff in preparing for comprehensive evaluations of the institution’s regional accreditation status.
  • Develop and maintain processes to guide the College’s institutional accreditation efforts.
  • Align relevant data from planning and assessment processes to meet the College’s internal and external accountability for regional, state, and federal accreditation and oversight bodies.
  • Coordinate external program-level accreditations, ensuring alignment with the College’s strategic and operational planning.
  • Monitor HLC compliance guidelines and conduct routine audits of various institutional policies and practices to ensure compliance; provide training to and educate HCC colleagues regarding federal, state, and local regulatory compliance and accreditation matters.


  • Liaison with Institutional Research to conduct data summits, presentations, and other meetings to engage the broader College and community in courageous conversations about outcomes and opportunities. Analyze, synthesize, and present data in ways that increase transparency of data and availability of resources.
  • Work with appropriate faculty and campus stakeholders and serve on College committees toward achievement of student success and student learning outcomes. Build a culture in which learning outcomes data inform co-curricular and curricular activities, teaching, and assessment (re)design – all with the goal of improving student learning and equitable outcomes. Balance accountability and reporting needs with a collaborative approach to assessment for learning.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of formal evaluation plans to track and measure divisional goals, provide guidance and support on how goals will be accomplished, and recommend appropriate changes.
  • Maintain and track academic data, curriculum changes, assessment data collection, analysis, and evaluation through the program review process, as well as the dissemination of results to College planning units and committees as appropriate.


  • Master’s degree
  • Experience with assessment practices
  • Ability to interact effectively and inclusively within a diverse campus community and with external agencies
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Terminal degree from a regionally-accredited institution
  • Experience with curriculum and program development, accreditation processes, employee evaluation, and faculty development
  • Proficiency in the use of data analysis tools
