Western New England University — Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA), the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students (AVP/DOS) provides supervision of, and leadership to, the Student Life Subdivision (residence life and housing, student involvement and leadership, new student engagement, commuter council, civic engagement, community standards, and the student outreach and support (SOS) team). As a strategic and hands-on leader, the AVP/DOS is a transformational visionary, a bridge builder, and a problem solver–working with students, faculty, and other administrators to identify and mitigate road blocks to student success.

The AVP/DOS ensures ALL students are able, and encouraged, to develop meaningful relationships and engage in meaningful experiences (i.e., relevant and responsive high impact practices).

The AVP/DOS ensures policies and protocols are systematic, easily understood, compliant with regulations, and reflective of best and proven practices. The AVP/DOS is a member of the Emergency Management and Response Team and leads the university’s on-call system.


A Master’s degree in education, student development, higher education administration, counseling, or a similar field and a minimum of 8 years of departmental supervisory experience in student affairs are required. A Doctorate is preferred. A strong record of leadership, demonstrating analytical ability to assess outcomes and evaluate programs, building productive and collaborative working relationships among constituents, and implementing JEDI initiatives is required. Familiarity with proven, best practices in areas in the AVP/DOS portfolio is preferred.
