Director of Corporate Development
The Office of Development at Whittier College seeks a Director of Corporate Development to build and advance external partnerships with industry, corporations, non-profits, government, and professional associations in support of the College's mission and fundraising priorities. This role will work closely with College leadership and other campus administrators to jointly identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward key corporate prospects and strategic partners with the ability to fund priority programs and initiatives. The incumbent is expected to maintain a pipeline of at least 50 prospective donors, advance at least 8-10 gift conversations, and hit a targeted fundraising goal each year.

The Director of Corporate Development must be able to skillfully interact with both external senior-level C-suite executives and executive board members, and internal campus leadership and project leaders.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week
Exempt Status: Exempt
Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time
Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000 annually; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.

Reports to: Associate Vice President of Development

Location/Department: Whittier College (Main Campus)/ Office of Development

	•	Cultivates, solicits, and stewards a dynamic portfolio of key corporate prospects and secures new levels of institutional support and engagement through grants, sponsored research, philanthropy, curriculum support, executive participation, in-kind support, corporate sponsorships (including for Athletics), student recruitment, and joint approaches to funding sources.
	•	Creates a strategic plan for mapping College needs and programs to the relevant needs of corporate partners, consistently refining and re-prioritizing as needed.
	•	Actively develops and implements strategies for promoting and enhancing the College's external visibility in support of brand enhancement and revenue generation.
	•	Drafts concept papers, grant proposals, budgets, gift agreements, and stewardship reports; reviews and negotiates MOUs.
	•	Schedules and attends academic and administrative leadership visits with corporations.
	•	Responsible for becoming a subject-matter expert for campus programs, as well as an expert in prospective organization's ongoing business needs and industry trends to identify and propose engagement and funding opportunities that are mutually beneficial to the College and the organization.
	•	Coordinates and communicates with AVP of Development and other frontline fundraisers on the most appropriate fundraising strategies, approaches, and activities related to individual prospects who have connections to corporations or corporate foundations to secure leadership gifts for the College.
	•	Develops comprehensive, aligned strategies with other departments on campus, such as Athletics, Admissions, Alumni Relations, Academic Affairs, the Career Center, and more, while promoting employer development initiatives.
	•	Directs strategic thought-leadership and value-added consultation to identify areas of need, and help guide faculty, deans, and other internal constituents with corporate strategies, project development, proposal submission, implementation, and stewardship methods.
	•	Records all interactions, plans, opportunities, key data, and solicitations in the Banner CRM system.

Position Specifications and Requirements:
Knowledge and Education:
	•		Requires a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, psychology, communications, or other related major.Master's degree preferred.
	•	Ten or more years of business/corporate experience, with emphasis in fundraising, corporate or foundation relations, business development, marketing, consultative sales, and strategic planning.
	•	At least five years of experience in a higher education setting preferred, including corporate and industry relations, major gift cultivation/solicitation, and donor relations.
	•	Extensive technical and narrative grant writing experience – including the ability to adapt to each grantmaker's preferred method of submission.
	•	Demonstrated experience in successfully launching new initiatives and in developing strategic partnerships.
