University of Southern Indiana — Associate Director of the Multicultural Center

The University of Southern Indiana (USI) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director of the Multicultural Center. As part of a team, this position will assist the Executive Director of the Multicultural Center in the planning, organization, coordination, and supervision of all aspects of the Multicultural Center’s vision and mission.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Develop strategic planning and cultural strategies that will assist in the continued enhancement of a University culture that welcomes and celebrates all students through the infusion of diversity and inclusion throughout the college experience.
  • Assist in the development of recruitment and retention initiatives that target underrepresented groups and underserved communities seeking higher education.
  • Use research to identify related trends in higher education and make recommendations for improving representation and campus experiences.
  • Provide support and guidance to students with the goal of ensuring overall academic and social success while promoting cultural pluralism and dialogue on matters related to the development and enhancement of the campus community experience.
  • Counsel, advise and consult with students, faculty, staff and alumni individually and collectively to support, educate and inform on the importance of building an inclusive, respectful community that embraces and welcomes diversity and inclusiveness.
  • Partners with the Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions and the Director of Graduate Studies to strengthen the collaborative efforts to advance recruitment strategies targeted at recruiting diverse student populations from predominately African American and Latinx communities, as well as people who are disabled and other marginalized populations as appropriate.
  • Lead, design and implement collaborative pre-enrollment strategies that support programs to attract and retain African American and Latinx students.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Master’s degree in student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field required. Doctorate in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred. Whether masters or doctorally prepared, must demonstrate ability to provide evidence-based recommendations that will influence doctorally prepared faculty.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in higher education, including specific experience working with college students in higher education settings from underrepresented and culturally diverse backgrounds. Experience advising student organizations on a college campus preferred.
  • Personal experience overcoming barriers is required.
  • Professional experience must have focused on overcoming barriers, with an emphasis on African American and Latinx student populations preferred.
