Job Description:
As a member of the US Health Promoting Campuses Network and the first university in New York State to adopt the Okanagan Charter, the University at Albany is committed to holistic well-being. The Director of Health Promotion serves as the campus leader to create the vision for a comprehensive and equitable culture of well-being and enhance all students’ ability to succeed through health promotion initiatives for a diverse campus of 17,000 students. In order to promote the health, health equity, resilience, and overall well-being of our students, the Director leads the research, design, planning, assessment, strategic development, and implementation of innovative, evidence- and theory-informed, and evidence-based approaches. The Director develops appropriate outcomes for each initiative, and then monitors and reports on those outcomes. The Director consults and collaborates with campus partners and constituents regarding alignment with comprehensive campus-wide well-being initiatives. Within the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Health Promotion is a part of the Health & Well-being team of offices, with the Director serving on its Leadership Team and the Vice President of Student Affairs Leadership Team. The Director is responsible for managing the office’s budget, using best practice approaches and available data to inform resource allocation to impact the student population.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Psychology, or a closely related health field conferred from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (ED) or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Five to seven years of experience in public health, health promotion, or behavioral health-focused work.
  • Three to five years of progressive management/administrative experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of ability to research, design, manage, and assess programs to support strategic vision, partnering with stakeholder groups, and effective problem solving and negotiating.
  • Evidence of ability to provide leadership in addressing the holistic, comprehensive health needs of emerging adults, particularly college students, using a public health framework.
  • Expertise in organizational-level and systems intervention and public health-informed prevention and early intervention strategies.
  • Familiarity with the Okanagan Charter and the application of its well-being framework to a university campus.
  • Experience with conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programmatic decisions and budget allocations.
  • Demonstrated ability to employ equitable and inclusive practices to promote the well-being of marginalized populations
  • Applicants must address in their cover letters their experience and ability to work from a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
  • Familiarity with social marketing and health communications strategies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in public health, psychology, or related field conferred from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (ED) or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • College health and well-being experience or corporate well-being initiatives.
  • Experience in prevention and intervention efforts that address health disparities and systems of oppression.
  • Successful grant writing experience.
  • Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH) designation, or eligible to be certified.
  • Knowledge of the ACHA Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education;
  • Experience with the development and leadership of peer education programs.
