Loyola Marymount University (LMU), a top-ranked university in Los Angeles, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (VP for IT/CIO). Information Technology Services is positioned within the Administration Division and the position reports to the Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. The Information Technology Services department is comprised of 91 positions distributed across the following teams: Educational Technology and Support Services, Infrastructure Services, Enterprise Applications, Strategy/Data/Analytics, Planning and Administration, and Information Security. The VP for IT/CIO will lead the Information Technology Services department at a critical time in the technology evolution of the university. Specifically, the new VP for IT/CIO will be expected to address the following opportunities and challenges, among others:

  • Take ownership of the IT Plan.
  • Attract, develop, and retain a diverse staff.
  • Partner with Academic Affairs leadership to validate and refine the portfolio of virtual and physical learning spaces.
  • Reinforce successful adoption of Workday HCM and Finance.
  • Ensure successful implementation of University Advancement CRM.
  • Ensure successful implementation of the Student Engagement and Support System.
  • Evolve the Data and Analytics Capabilities.
  • Rationalize data center infrastructure and execute migration to cloud infrastructure.

    LMU seeks in its next VP for IT/CIO an institutional leader who can quickly develop an understanding for the strategic opportunities within the LMU community for technology enablement and inspire a diverse and talented team to work together to realize these opportunities. The VP for IT/CIO will demonstrate a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing universities like LMU, will have a deep understanding of higher education technology trends, and will have shown the ability to influence a diverse IT stakeholder population towards a shared understanding of technology solutions (people, processes, and technology). The successful candidate will possess many of the following experiences, knowledge, skills, and attributes deemed desirable by members of the LMU community:

  • Typically, a Master's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading organization-wide initiatives, influencing senior-level leadership and key stakeholders effectively across the organization and within complex contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategy and strategic planning, organization design and development.
  • The demonstrated ability to grow, develop, and sustain strong teams and develop and communicate vision that inspires and motivates staff.
  • A deep understanding of the value of a diverse community; a demonstrated track record of advancing equity and diversity and enhancing inclusiveness.
  • Ability to drive organizational change and build capabilities that effectively balance the needs for continuously exploiting capabilities to optimize operational efficiency, with delivering innovative and agile IT solutions to enable the university to explore technology-enabled opportunities.
  • Approachable, optimistic, and intellectually curious with personal warmth, generosity of spirit, a can-do attitude, courage, and strong resilience in the face of disagreement or criticism. Leadership that is achieved through listening, empathy, and the empowerment of others.
