Job Summary
The Director of Employee Relations and Engagement reports directly to the Senior Associate Vice President, Administrative Services and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). The Director provides operational oversight and leadership of the university compliance programs, performance and talent management, learning and development, career and succession planning, and employee and labor relations. The Director will work as a trusted resource to all university employees, as well as a strategic partner to supervisors, managers, and faculty leaders. Job Description
Typical duties include but not limited to:

• Creates, develops, and implements comprehensive employee and labor relations, performance and talent management, learning and development, career and succession planning, employee recognition, and compliance programs.
• Resolves employee disputes and advises management in the implementation of disciplinary and performance management procedures.
• Provides advice and counsel to managers, supervisors and employees regarding human resources practices, policy, laws and employee relations matters.
• Facilitates communication between employees and management by providing guidance and consultation regarding problem solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance and best practices for talent management.
• Partners with the Office of General Council to conduct investigations. Interviews alleged employee misconduct and prepares and/or assists management in the preparation of documentation for response.
• Manages the employee complaint and grievance process. Creates recommendations to resolve employee complaints and grievances.
• Provides oversight of annual performance review processes. Provides training on processes and metrics, resolves technical issues, and ensures completion of processes within guidelines.
• Provides guidance and oversight on the creation of a comprehensive employee development program that includes career and succession planning.
• Participates in the development, implementation, documentation, and enforcement policies and procedures.
• Participates in the strategic planning for assigned areas and assists with developing and implementing the departmental strategic plan.
• Develops, administers and analyzes continuous assessment of programs. Conducts needs assessment to identify professional development opportunities. Prepares and evaluates statistical, analytical, and narrative reports to be used for decision making and program improvement.
• Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success within the assigned area of responsibility.
• Provides guidance and direction to staff. Delegates work, establishes work schedules, and communicates performance standards.

Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Human Resource Management or closely related field.
• Eight years of progressively responsible leadership experience in human resources.
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
• Experience leading employee engagement system administration including talent review, learning and development, and employee evaluation.
• Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree from an accredited institution in Human Resource Management or closely related field.
• PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification.
• Professional experience in the area of employee relations and employee engagement in a complex public sector or academic human resources environment.
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
• Workday HCM, Talent, and Learning systems experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of federal and state employment laws, policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of employee and labor relations, collective bargaining and employment laws.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.

• Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgement in the establishment, interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules, regulations, and policies.
• Ability to develop and deliver presentations.

Salary: $95,000 – negotiable
