Department Summary

Financial Services fulfills CSU San Bernardino's fiscal responsibilities by maintaining financial integrity through sound accounting practices and providing quality services to our campus community. One of the units under Financial Services is Reporting and Tax which is responsible for the preparation of the University's GAAP financial and tax reporting to the Chancellor's Office (CO), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and other outside entities, completing audit requirements, compliance to Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) and Nonresident Alien (NRA) tax regulations and maintenance of the chart of accounts.

Job Summary

As CSUSB's Accountant III (also referred to as our Financial Reporting Lead), you will take a lead role in the preparation of CSUSB's GAAP financial audit and tax reporting. In addition, you will be responsible for various accounting projects and implementations including month-end and fiscal year-end closing processes. This position will maintain Chart of Accounts and examine financial reports for conformance with GAAP, University, and Auxiliary policies and procedures.

  • Full-time, Exempt, Probationary with the possibility of converting to permanent.

Work Schedule

  • Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am – 5:30 pm)
  • Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
  • Some evenings and weekend hours may be required.
Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and GASB/FASB standards.
  • Knowledge of statistical and mathematical presentation of data.
  • Knowledge of advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems, and/or other types of records management systems.
  • General knowledge of governmental accounting and internal control methods and related laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to prepare complex financial statements and reports; understand and interpret laws and rules; communicate effectively with others inside and outside the unit, including conveying complex and technical professional accounting information to non-accountants.

This position will analyze transactions from various systems and processes with the emphasis on improved efficiency. Other abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position are:

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent or a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Equivalent to five (5) years of professional-level accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, with a major in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field.
  • Higher Ed or CSU accounting and reporting experience.
  • Experience with financial system, such as PeopleSoft.
  • Experience in preparing complex reconciliation or year-end audit reports.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,899 – $6,667 per month

Classification Salary Range: $4,899 – $9,454 per month
