University of Rochester — Executive Vice President for Administration and Finance and Chief Financial Officer

The University of Rochester seeks an experienced leader for the newly-created position of Executive Vice President for Administration and Finance and Chief Financial Officer (“EVP”). Reporting to President Sarah Mangelsdorf and serving as a member of the University cabinet, the EVP will lead the management of finances and administration for the entire University, which requires working closely with its medical center, schools and colleges, and programs.

The EVP will provide the overall strategic direction of the University’s essential business and financial operations. The EVP will serve as a trusted partner to the President and Board of Trustees on financial planning/strategies, allocation and management of resources, implementation of strategic plans, and management of facilities and infrastructure. In addition, the EVP will work closely with members of the President’s Senior Leadership Group, University Cabinet (including deans and directors), and leadership from the medical center.

The EVP will lead efforts to continue to strengthen the University’s business, financial and administrative practices in support of its academic, research, clinical practice and service missions. The EVP also serves as a steward of the University’s resources and assets.  

As a highly visible organizational leader, the EVP will engage across the University’s campuses and demonstrate a strong commitment to collaboration and transparency. As a leader of people, the EVP will supervise senior level officers and directors in the development and implementation of objectives and policies and play a key role in the University’s forecasting and modelling.  The EVP will also provide advice and counsel to stakeholders in an inclusive manner that encourages participation and facilitates the sharing of knowledge.

The EVP oversees the planning and management of finances, including Finance (including the offices of Budgets and Planning, Controller, Accounts Payable, Financial Reporting and Analysis, Payroll, Sponsored Programs Accounting, and Bursar), Internal Audit, and Treasury Management. The EVP is responsible for central administrative and support operations, including Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities and Services, Auxiliary Operations, Public Safety, and Corporate Purchasing. 

Direct reports to the EVP include: Chief of Staff and Deputy to Chief Financial Officer; Senior Associate Vice President for Finance; Senior Associate Vice President for Facilities & Services; Associate Vice President Purchasing & Supply Chain; Associate Treasurer and Director of Treasury Operations and Compliance; Chief Audit Executive;  Associate Vice President for Environmental Health and Safety, Fire Marshall and Chief Safety Officer; Director of Public Safety; and Director of Campus Dining Services and Auxiliary Operations.
