UMass Global — Chancellor

UMass Global seeks a dynamic and forward thinking leader with a strong commitment to excellence in the education of working adults, to guide the institution to the next level of distinction as its Chancellor.

UMass Global is a fully accredited, private, nonprofit university designed for working adults seeking to improve their careers through education. The University was established in 1958 by Chapman University and was initially named Chapman University College. In 2009, the institution was renamed Brandman University and became its own regionally accredited institution, accredited by WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). In May of 2021, Brandman University formed a strategic partnership with the University of Massachusetts, and in September 2021, became University of Massachusetts Global, a non-profit affiliate of the University of Massachusetts system. Today, as UMass Global, the institution’s mission is to provide students with an accessible, inclusive and transformative education based on excellence and flexibility, creating lasting value and relevance for a dynamic world. UMass Global serves more than 23,000 students and offers over 70 bachelor, master and doctoral degrees (EdD and DNP), taught on campus – across 25+ locations, including six military bases and three community college locations – online and through competency-based education (CBE).

Reporting to the UMass Global Board of Regents and the CEO of UMass Online, the UMass Global Chancellor will be responsible for all operations of the University, including growth planning, overall leadership and guidance of the institution, its academic programs, external relationships and partnerships, financial stewardship, student safety and success, and the administration of resources. The Chancellor will develop and implement a bold strategic direction for the institution, will have demonstrated administrative skills in managing a complex and geographically distributed organization. As a collaborative leader, the Chancellor will effectively represent the University to colleagues, students and external stakeholders and maintain a culture consistent with the high integrity of UMass Global’s mission and values. The Chancellor will need to think big and be confident to take necessary risks to strategically and appropriately grow UMass Global’s reach, brand and impact regionally, nationally and internationally.

The successful candidate will have a record of leadership accomplishments; significant executive-level management experience of people and finances with proven success in a role of comparable complexity; and a deep commitment to and demonstrated understanding of the values and mission of adult learning. Candidates from non-academic sectors, who have non-traditional but comparable skill sets, will be fully considered. A master’s degree is required.
