University of Houston-Clear Lake — Lecturer, Biology

The University of Houston-Clear Lake invites applications for the position Lecturer of Biology, beginning August 2022. This position has a normal teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester (4:4 teaching load) with the opportunity to teach courses in the summer semester. Responsible for supporting the teaching teaching of BIOL 3141 Lab for Molecular Genetics and/or BIOL 4242 Lab for Biochemistry to support the increase the number of lab sections offered to meet the increasing demand of core lab that are required to complete the Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. These are labs are required for the programs large lecture course and are co-requisite for the degree. The Lecturer of Biology will support the tab setup and oversight of Teaching Assistants assigned to these courses as well as collaborate with the Laboratory Supervisor to maintain laboratory equipment and laboratory space.


  • Teach Biology for non-science majors lecture and labs as well as laboratory courses in either genetics, biochemistry or microbiology. utilizing innovative methods.
  • Contribute to University and Departmental committees and to professional organizations.
  • Work with the faculty colleagues to maintain and improve the Biology Program and support accreditation continuous improvement processes.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


  • Master of Science degree in a Biology or closely related filed.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching across the various areas of Biology.
  • Ability to teach effectively, including in an active learning environment with some focus on theoretical and applied knowledge of experimental Biology.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty in Biology and other disciplines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines as well as written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to engage a diverse student body in and out of the classroom and perform other duties as assigned.


  • Master of Science degree in the field of molecular biology, physiology or biochemistry.
  • Demonstrated record of teaching excellence in molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry.
  • Experience teaching lecture and labs for general biology and laboratory teaching experience in genetics, microbiology or biochemistry.
