The Opportunity
Temple University invites applications and nominations in its search for a Senior Vice President, Chief Engagement Officer.

Reporting directly to the President, the Senior Vice President, Chief Engagement Officer (“SVP”) will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive and coordinated university strategy for external facing units and constituents that advances the engagement goals and needs of the university. This cabinet-level position will oversee three teams—Strategic Marketing and Communications, Institutional Advancement and Public Affairs which includes community and government relations, ensuring the alignment of strategy and efficient implementation. The SVP will be passionate, creative and results-oriented and will possess the sophistication and savvy to strategically solidify the Temple brand and create a comprehensive, innovative, and unified communication plan consistent with that brand and the mission of the university across internal communication channels as well as to external media outlets and the greater community.

The SVP will work closely with the President and Chief of Staff to develop and execute a strategy for engaging key internal and external constituents; develop and implement a comprehensive, mission-driven strategy to position the university to reach goals in all areas involving external relations; and develop and implement internal infrastructure, leadership and teams with a clear vision and plan for executing strategy. Along with exceptional communication skills, the SVP will possess a proven track record of maintaining and facilitating productive relationships with key community and government leaders to identify areas of mutual interest and opportunity and work to advance a strategy that aligns these interests with a combination of internal and external resources. In addition, the SVP will have passion for the mission of Temple University and the capacity to thrive in the University’s dynamic and diverse community.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a strong understanding of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania government affairs and policies affecting higher education and demonstrated experience in relationship building with key constituents for mission-driven outcomes. The successful candidate will have more than ten years of progressive experience and leadership in one or more of the focal fields of public affairs, strategic marketing and communications, community/government relations, and/or business development for an organization of comparable size and complexity, preferably within higher education, with experience overseeing diverse teams. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills a must.  A master’s degree is required.
