COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Salary Range: $73,691 -$102,455 (2021/22 Faculty Salary Schedule); teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees determine salary placement on a schedule that is competitive with other California Community Colleges. Contracted salary is for 177 days per year (August through May) as specified in the All Faculty Association Contract, Article 8. AFA Contract – Articles

This is a full-time, tenure-track/continuing contract position in the Philosophy Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, August 2022. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

Essential Functions

SRJC offers courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including online. While this assignment is for the Santa Rosa campus, please note the district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and that assignments could involve any combination of day or evening classes with weekly office hours being mandatory. Instructors assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field, for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or online courses), assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work, managing laboratories, and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Philosophy department is dedicated to providing the highest quality instruction of the methods and tradition of our discipline. We meet the educational needs of our students by employing pedagogies that are responsive to their diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, by offering general education, elective courses for transfer, and for occupational students; and by providing opportunities for life-long learning to the larger community. Our department currently has five (5) full-time and nine (9) associate faculty. Offices are located in the Emeritus Building on Elliot Avenue. Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED:
Master's Degree in Philosophy; OR Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy AND Master's Degree in Humanities or Religious Studies; OR the equivalent OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Philosophy and Religion; and

Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

PREFERRED:

  • Master's degree in Philosophy
  • Broad educational background in philosophy relevant to teaching introductory philosophy courses
  • Experience teaching college-level lower division philosophy courses, especially in Critical Thinking
  • Expertise in at least one of the following traditions: Asian, Native-American, Meso-American, Mexican, and/or African philosophy
  • Demonstrated understanding of how racism and sexism have shaped the discipline of philosophy, and a pedagogy that reflects this understanding
  • Demonstrated interest in collegiality
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
