Student Services Associate 5 (Senior Associate Director)

Residence Life is seeking a Senior Associate Director to join their team. This position will be responsible for assisting with the supervision and administration of a comprehensive residence hall program housing 14,000 students while supervising/overseeing the tasks of the Assistant Directors at University Park and the Associate Director for Student Conduct. The Senior Director, in consultation with the Senior Associate Director, interprets the Senior Associate Director's job description according to the needs of the Residence Life program.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Residence Life, responsibilities include:

I. Supervision

  • Supervise Associate Director for Student Conduct and four University Park Assistant Directors responsible for thirty-eight professional staff and 300 paraprofessionals
  • Plan and facilitate staff meetings in Director's absence and as needed
  • Evaluate Associate Director for Student Conduct and Assistant Directors job performance
  • Provide system-wide support and training for para-professional and professional staff

II. Student and Community Development

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the community standards program including the judicial database
  • Serve as the primary liaison to Office of Student Conduct and University Police
  • Monitor and update the electronic climate report system and Maxient
  • Update residence hall polices as they relate to community standards and residence hall contracts
  • Handle student emergencies and crisis response. Be a part of the weekday and weekend on call rotation for the department
  • Support faculty and student involvement programs
  • Demonstrate a commitment to students and the quality of their life in the residence hall environment
  • Demonstrate a commitment to human relations and diversity issues
  • Demonstrate a commitment to staff and student retention and recruitment efforts, particularly as they impact members of underrepresented groups

III. Administration

  • Assist the Senior Director in setting the overall direction for the department
  • Maintain effective working relationships with university departments that are external to Student Affairs including Housing and Food Services
  • Lead and oversee strategic plans for the department
  • Assist the Senior Director in developing and managing the budget
  • Assist Senior Assistant Director in setting the direction for the department's living-learning environments
  • Oversee the budget of $4 million and assist with a budget of $10 million
  • Serve as primary liaison to the University Police, Assignment Office, and Office of Student Conduct
  • Represent Residence Life as part of the CARE team
  • Attend Assignment, On-line Contract, and Space Allocation meetings
  • Attend and facilitate new staff mentor sessions
  • Plan and facilitate system-wide meetings, training, and retreats

IV. Miscellaneous

  • Assist the Senior Director in the development and implementation of goals, policies, guidelines, and procedures for the residence hall program
  • Utilize Residence Life and Student Affairs assessment results to measure the department's effectiveness and to implement appropriate programs and services for students
  • Respond effectively to student emergencies and inquiries from higher-level staff, faculty, parents, and the press
  • Serve as representative for construction and renovation planning and committees for buildings and office spaces
  • Represent Senior Director on University and Student Affairs committees when they are absent or unavailable
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required to be part of an on-call duty rotation and live within 15 miles of campus. Requires a Master's degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Ph.D. or a degree in college student personnel or a related field preferred. Successful candidate must have professional staff supervisory experience, crisis management experience, and demonstrate effective time management, administrative, and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate a commitment to the development of a community where diversity and sustainability are valued.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

Due to the financial and fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
