About the University:

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. Since that time, the University has grown and developed into one of the premier public universities, not only in the California State University system, but also in the nation. Indeed, U.S. News & World Report listed CSUCI as 20th among “Top Public Schools” in its 2021 edition of Best Colleges Rankings. The University is located in Ventura County and is home to more than 6,900 undergraduate and 239 graduate students. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

Duties for the AVP HIPEE include:

  • Works with the CSUCI Mission Center Directors to develop multi-year plans to expand impact of Mission Centers on academic programs and student engagement
  • Oversees academic learning communities
  • Provides oversight and expansion of:  Student Learning Communities; the Santa Rosa Island Research Station and coordination with the National Park Service; Student Research, in cooperation with various academic programs; academic internships, in cooperation with various academic programs
  • Collaborates with aforementioned areas to develop plans for the assessment and branding of high impact practices and experiential education
  • Provides oversight and coordination of risk management, liability, and compliance associated with experiential education
  • Coordinates with external partners including other institutions and agencies, including community partnerships
  • Oversees and carries to completion projects assigned by the Provost and/or Vice Provost

The AVP HIPEE is broadly responsible for leadership on advancing instructional activities that promote student engagement, retention, academic success, and timely graduation by disseminating proven high impact practices and experiential learning opportunities throughout graduate and undergraduate academic programs. This includes advancing the CSUCI Mission Pillars by providing administrative support for each of the Mission Centers, as well as providing leadership for Student Research, Learning Communities, and the Santa Rosa Island Research Station. The AVP HIPEE will be expected to work with faculty and Deans to create a multi-year vision for advancing high impact practices and learning supports, overseeing expansion of existing programs, and relying on data informed decisions to allocate resources to maximize impact on student success.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: 

Possession of a terminal degree in an academic field, and a record of professional achievement as a scholar and a teacher to be appointed with tenure at the rank of Professor are required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum three years of administrative experience and is expected to have a demonstrable record of achievement pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additional preferred qualifications include: administrative experience within a collective bargaining environment; ability to interact effectively with external constituents; knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues in the public higher education sector; and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Hiring Range:  $9,000 – $15,000 per month
