Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

College of DuPage seeks full-time, faculty librarian to serve as Digital Content and Open Access Librarian, starting in August 2022. This librarian will leverage their knowledge of open access (OA), open educational resources (OER) and licensed electronic resources to support the Library's commitment to excellence in academic course materials.

The ideal candidate will be able to develop innovative approaches in outreach, promotion, and education about course materials and library resources in the open and licensed environments, is committed to student and faculty success, and is able to work successfully in a collaborative environment.

  • Provides leadership, strategy, and insight for the management of digital collections, including:
    • promoting the use of Library-licensed content to the College community through outreach, promotion, and education,
    • developing systems to ensure quality support for users,
    • and collaborating with Liaison Librarians to cultivate collections that effectively support teaching and learning.
  • Supervises staff assigned to support open access initiatives and electronic resources management.
  • Consults with instructors to help them discover, adopt, and adapt externally-produced OER and to promote awareness and understanding of available options for replacing/supplementing commercially published course materials; collaborates with instructors and librarians to develop and disseminate locally-produced OER.
  • As a leading member of the College's Textbook Affordability Committee, collaboratively sets program goals, policies, best practices, and assessment metrics for program success and sustainability.
  • Provides formal and informal instruction to faculty and staff on OER, OA, and open licensing practices.
    Provides leadership in the use, development, and maintenance of the College of DuPage Digital Press; advises on utilization of the College's institutional repository for storage and provision of openly licensed materials.

Per the CODFA contract, duties of Faculty Librarians may include reference, instruction, research consultations, promoting and developing collections, services, and instructional materials, original cataloging, and assisting in planning and implementing Library programs and services, as well as supporting curriculum related research and collaborating with Faculty to develop assignments. Faculty Librarians are expected to participate in relevant continuing education and professional communication activities to keep abreast of new technologies, methodologies, and resources in academic librarianship.


  • Master's Degree in Library and Information Science, or equivalent, from an ALA-accredited program required.
  • Two years professional experience in an academic library required.
  • Experience working with both open and licensed educational materials required.
  • Experience managing electronic resources preferred.
  • Proficiency with Creative Commons and copyright principles preferred.
