Department Statement:
Colgate University, a top-ranked liberal arts college, is seeking an Assistant/Associate Director of Alumni Relations to play an integral role in supporting an alumni program focused on engaging more than 34,000 living alumni.Founded in 1819, Colgate is a small, highly selective residential liberal arts college for students of talent who are preparing for lives of leadership and productive citizenship. Colgate University enjoys a strong tradition of philanthropy and engagement, having successfully raised over $480 million from more than 34,500 community members during Passion for The Climb: The Campaign for Colgate, completed in 2012. On an annual basis, more than 56% of Colgate’s alumni engage with the University through philanthropy, volunteering, or engaging at online and in person programs, including signature events like Reunion that draws in more than 2500 alumni and guests. This tradition of philanthropy paired with strong levels of alumni affinity position Colgate well for even greater success, as the Vice President and his team prepare to lead the community into an historic and comprehensive campaign.

At this pivotal moment in the University’s history, Colgate is seeking an Assistant/Associate Director of Alumni Relations to play an integral role on the alumni relations team. The person in this role will be responsible for managing pieces of our Signature Programs including the Colgate Professional Networks and Intellectual Engagement events featuring faculty members. This successful candidate will possess strong communication and volunteer management skills, the ability to collaborate with a variety of entities, and be responsible for developing creative programming in support of the Third-Century Plan.

Accountabilities:
Accountable for creation and delivery of programs and events to strengthen alumni connection and engagement. Responsible for effective management, training, and engagement of volunteers. Accountable for effective coordination and support of Alumni Relations Signature Programs. Responsible for effective and independent management of multiple Reunion programs and logistics.

Professional Experience/Qualifications

  • Previous event planning and execution experience and demonstrated abilities coordinating vendors and volunteers is essential.
  • Experience with Microsoft suite of products and Google Suite is preferred.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, be well organized, detail oriented and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficiency and skills with computer technology required.
  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated an entrepreneurial thought process, a high-energy approach and creative thinking skills.
  • The ability to successfully represent the university with all stakeholders and to understand the value of a liberal arts education is essential.
  • Capacity to work well independently and with little direction.
  • Requires strong verbal and written skills, accuracy, and attention to detail, flexibility, and willingness to take on new assignments.
  • Ability to interact in a collegial manner with a culturally diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Must be able to manage confidential and sensitive information, maintaining the strictest confidentiality.
  • Must be able to travel and work evenings and weekends when needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Colgate University and its alumni community is preferred.

Experience in institutional advancement or related experience is preferred.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience is preferred.
