Adelphi University — Dean of the College of Nursing and Public Health

Adelphi University invites nominations and applications for the position of dean of the College of Nursing and Public Health. We are looking for a proven, dynamic, innovative, and collaborative leader capable of bringing a bold, creative vision as well as strong organizational and management skills to the position.

Located just 23 miles from New York City, Adelphi is a private university in the midst of one of the most dynamic phases of its 125-year history. With record enrollments, an increasingly diverse student body and faculty, expanding graduate programs and growing financial and administrative strength, Adelphi is being transformed just as it is transforming the lives of its students through its personalized approach to higher education. The University is a doctoral granting institution with eight colleges and schools and more than 100 different degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and professional levels serving nearly 8,100 students.

For almost 80 years the Adelphi College of Nursing and Public Health (CNPH) has been preparing nurses and leaders in both nursing and public health who are ready to make an impact in their communities. In 2019, the CNPH received the prestigious four-year designation as a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, and the only nursing program within the country to receive distinction in the category of Advancing the Science of Nursing Excellence. The CNPH offers more than 10 programs, including a B.S. in Nursing, an accelerated B.S in Nursing, a Master of Public Health, a Master’s in HealthCare Informatics, an M.S. in Nursing Education, a Master’s in Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, a Master’s in Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, a D.N.P. in Adult Gerontology Primary Care, and a Ph.D. in Nursing. Adelphi’s nursing programs are highly ranked by U.S. News & World Report for Best Undergraduate Nursing Program and Best Grad School for Nursing. The College currently enrolls 1,648 undergraduate and 431 graduate students and has 41 full-time and 265 part-time faculty members and 24 administrative staff members. The CNPH supports an inclusive learning environment in which all students feel understood, respected, and appreciated. The mission of the CNPH’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council is to create a respectful culture that embraces virtues of diversity, equity, inclusivity, civility, and anti-racism in all dealings with students, faculty, staff, administration, and external stakeholders.

Reporting to the provost, the dean of the College of Nursing and Public Health is responsible for the leadership and administration of the unit and works collaboratively with other academic deans. The dean is responsible for all curricula within the College, course planning, faculty and student recruitment and retention, assessment and accreditation-related activities, budget preparation, and supervision of support staff. Some priorities for the next dean include but are not limited to: expanding strategic partnerships and clinical opportunities, creating a collaborative shared vision for the College, growing interprofessional opportunities, encouraging scholarly research, and fundraising. In alignment with the mission of the CNPH’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council, successful candidates will demonstrate an authentic sense of humanity, care, and respect for all individuals within the University and its communities; value and exhibit honest and ethical behavior; and be willing to listen to and consider differing points of view.

For more details, please see the full position profile here.

There is a strong preference for a licensed nurse who holds a PhD or EdD. The successful candidate should meet the requirements of a full professor within one of the academic disciplines within the College, or commensurate professional experience.
