Virginia Tech — Assistant Professor of Practice / Costume Design and Technology (non-tenure track)

The Theatre and Cinema program of the School of Performing Arts at Virginia Tech seeks a dynamic and creative theatre artist to join us as an Assistant Professor of Practice in Costume Design and Technology. We are looking for a colleague with recent professional practice and a commitment to artistic integrity, growth, and craftsmanship, to mentor our students at the undergraduate and graduate level. 

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate costume design and technology in a 2-2 course load; leading the MFA in Costume Design and Technology program in our MFA in Theatre Arts; supervising the Costume Shop Manager; and designing or supervising the design of costumes on all productions in the Theatre program. The start date for this position is August 10th, 2022, and is for a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. The Professor of Practice rank series includes the opportunity for promotion.

Required qualifications:
MFA in Theatre or significant professional experience in costume design. 

Preferred qualifications: 

Previous teaching and mentoring experience at the university level. Abilities in digital design or a related secondary area.
Membership in United Scenic Artists Local 829
