University of Pennsylvania — Associate Vice Provost for University Life (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging)

The University of Pennsylvania (Penn) seeks an experienced, collaborative, and committed leader to serve as the next Associate Vice Provost for University Life (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging) (AVP) within Penn University Life. Leading six Cultural Resource Centers and reporting directly to the Vice Provost for University Life (VPUL), the next AVP will bring to Penn a strong understanding of and commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging for students of all identities and socio-economic backgrounds, exceptional leadership skills, a deep understanding of the national landscape for the challenges and trends in the student affairs profession, and a demonstrated ability to form effective relationships with university leadership, staff, faculty, and with students. As Penn approaches its next chapter of excellence with new leadership in the University Life office and a new university president arriving in July 2022, this is an exciting time for a multi-faceted and dynamic student affairs professional to join the Penn University Life. 

Overseeing an operating budget of $2 million, the AVP will directly supervise the Director of the Greenfield Intercultural Center, the Director of La Casa Latina, the Director of the LGBT Center, the Director of Makuu, the Director of the Pan-Asian American Community House, and the Director of the Penn Women’s Center. Through these direct reports, the AVP will provide leadership to their centers and oversee the development of 16 professional staff members and more than 30 student staff members at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. 

The next AVP will be the strategic visionary and leader for Penn’s diversity and inclusion efforts, advancing the strategic mission of University Life. The successful candidate will be a champion of student success and will collaborate with partners across the institution to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives. They will bring expertise in leading complex organizations and will provide leadership and engage in transformative change in the service of students. They will be a strong supervisor with a proven ability to lead and inspire their staff and serve as a mentor and advocate for all Penn students.
