The University of Missouri – Columbia (MU), invites nominations and applications for the Department Chair of Public Health, within the School of Health Professions and College of Veterinary Medicine.

The Department of Public Health seeks an outstanding collaborator, educator, and researcher with demonstrated leadership to further advance excellence in the areas of teaching, research, and service. Already a department with innovative academic programs and broad connections across the University of Missouri, this new chair will serve a critical role in further illuminating and pursuing the great academic and research potential of this department as a critical component of the integrated health education and health care system at the University of Missouri—resulting in a high-enrollment department with engaged students, the host of desired doctoral training and a national leader in research. The university welcomes profiles from candidates with funded research programs, a national reputation in public health, and a drive to be a leader in our program, school, and university.

Departmental Priorities & Responsibilities:

  • Build a cohesive research agenda and grow the public health research enterprise
  • Market and grow the undergraduate program to enhance and maximize course offerings to meet the need of both in-person and online students
  • Engage campus, local, and broader communities for long-term growth and maximize impact of public health in improving community health
  • Develop a long-term strategic plan which incorporates priorities and enjoys buy-in of key stakeholders
  • Serve as a strong leader, role model, and advocate for the Department to achieve the highest possible level of excellence in teaching, research, and service 
  • Manage the day-to-day operations, including personnel and resource management


  • Doctorate in Public Health, or Doctorate in applicable research field and an MPH or public health experience
  • Academic accomplishments that merit an appointment at the rank of an Associate Professor or Full Professor
  • Strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunity in all activities
