Three African American Scholars With New Faculty Assignments

Seretha Williams was appointed chair of the department of English and world languages at Augusta University in Georgia. Dr. Williams joined the faculty at the university in 1998. She has served as the interim director of the women’s studies program and is the editor of Third Stone Journal, an open-access digital journal that focuses on the theme of Afrofuturism.

Dr. Williams is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she majored in journalism. She earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of Georgia. She also holds a master of library and information science degree from Valdosta State University in Georgia.

Randle Pollard has joined the faculty at the law school at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, as the Millhiser Professor of Practice. Pollard comes to the law school from the Washington, D.C., firm of Ogletree Deakins, where he is a member of the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation group. he is a former assistant professor of business law and taxation at Indiana University and a former associate professor of law at Widener University Commonwealth School of Law in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Professor Pollard is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia where he majored in accounting. He earned a juris doctorate and a master’s degree in law at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

Robert Linton, II has been selected as chief medical officer at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He was chair and medical director of the emergency department at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Maryland.

Dr. Linton holds a bachelor’s degree from Howard University and a medical doctorate from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. He also earned an MBA specializing in medical services management from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

In Memoriam: Norman B. Anderson, 1955-2024

Dr. Anderson was the assistant vice president for research and academic affairs at Florida State University at the time of his death. He had an extensive career in clinical psychology, which led him to become the first African American chief executive officer of the American Psychological Association.
