Large Group of HBCUs Receive Bomb Threats on the Same Day

On the afternoon and evening of January 4, at least eight historically Black colleges and universities received bomb threats, forcing the educational institutions to institute lockdown, evacuations, and police sweeps of campus buildings and facilities. No bombs were found on any of the campuses.

The eight HBCUs that received bomb threats were Howard University in Washington, D.C., Norfolk State University in Virginia, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Florida Memorial University, North Carolina Central University, Xavier University in New Orleans, Spelman College in Atlanta, and Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

The campuses were sparsely populated as most students were still away for the winter break. Norfolk State University evacuated students who were on campus and put them in a hotel overnight.

Campus and local police as well as the FBI are participating in the investigation of the bomb threats.

  1. Here’s a classic example how HBCUs are undervalued and marginalized by the White owned media by their intentional non-reporting of this serious issue that happened at seven HBCUs. Case in point, if similar threats were made towards seven Historically White Colleges and Universities (HWCUs) it would have been “headlines” all across the country. Let’s talk about ownership, I wonder why I didn’t see any collective public statements from the HBCUs who received the threats. Once again, misleadership is running rampant at HBCUs in 2022.
