University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurology — UCLA Faculty Alzheimer’s Disease

The University of California, Los Angeles invites applications for a clinical faculty position in the Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research (UCLA Easton Center) in the Department of Neurology. The UCLA Easton Center seeks a highly qualified dementia or neurobehavior specialist to provide care for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias in the UCLA Dementia and Memory Disorders clinic. Requirements include an M.D., or M.D. equivalent, board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and fellowship training in behavioral neurology, geriatric medicine, or geriatric psychiatry. The UCLA Easton Center welcomes applicants with a strong track record of providing excellent clinical care in dementia, teaching, and referring patients to clinical research studies.

The Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research (Director, Keith Vossel) is a comprehensive center focused on Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. The Center encompasses outpatient clinics, neuropsychology services, basic and clinical science research projects and an extensive clinical trial program under an integrated organizational structure dedicated to excellent clinical care and developing a cure for Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases (http://www.adc.ucla.edu/). The Center, based in the Department of Neurology, has 23 faculty spanning several School of Medicine Departments and 18 staff. The Center has clinical and research sites at the Westwood UCLA campus, the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, capturing a large and diverse patient population.

The Department of Neurology at the DGSOM is internationally recognized in its pursuit of innovation, strategic growth and success. Founded by Augustus S. Rose, M.D. in 1951, the Department has grown to its current size with 106 faculty with primary appointments, 11 with secondary appointments, 4 active emeriti faculty, and 59 voluntary faculty throughout the local region. The department is integrated with seven affiliated hospitals including Harbor/UCLA Medical Center, Olive View/UCLA Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center, and Charles Drew University. These affiliations provide the ability to serve a diverse community throughout the region.

The Department is organized into disease-specific programs, including all of the major categories of neurological diseases. The department enjoyed a #1 ranking in NIH funding for nine consecutive years and currently is in the top tier nationally. The faculty lead comprehensive clinical programs at the clinical sites within the Department. US News & World Report has recognized RRUCLA as Best in the West and one of the top five Best Hospitals in the nation, and recognized UCLA in the top 10 for best adult neurology/neurosurgery care. The department has a strong tradition in the development of clinician-scientists and is home to 125 trainees. The Neurology residency training program is rated in the top 10 nationally and attracts applicants from the finest institutions in the nation. The faculty are educational leaders who chair many of the courses at national meetings and are the authors of many noted textbooks on subdisciplines in neurology.
