Description: Purchase College, SUNY, seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Communications to teach a range of communication courses, including Introduction to Communication, Communication Research and additional classes in the successful candidate’s area of expertise. Academic advising and committee work are also expectations of the position. The successful candidate will join a growing communication program with concentrations in television production, public relations and advertising, to begin September 1, 2022.

Teaching responsibilities include five courses a year, ranging from beginning to advanced classes in our undergraduate program. In addition, you will work with a small class of students on their senior capstone project. Preferred candidates will have a PhD and a record of successful teaching experience.

Purchase College is located 25 miles north of New York City and is primarily an undergraduate institution, with several graduate programs, including an MA in Art History focused on modern and contemporary art, criticism, and theory. Because it houses a unique combination of Liberal Arts and Sciences majors and Arts Conservatory programs, our faculty and staff are committed to interdisciplinary experimentation and the appreciation of intellectual and artistic approaches to research, with an emphasis on writing of all kinds.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD in Communications or related field, by Sept. 1, 2022. (ABD considered) Demonstrated teaching excellence at college level.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Professional experience in strategic communications, public relations, marketing, or advertising. Experience developing curriculum.  Demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly research and engage with the communications discipline.
