MIT Open Learning seeks a learning science and education outreach specialist to leverage knowledge of the learning sciences and background in higher education pedagogies to distill, communicate, and amplify stories of innovative instructional approaches enacted by faculty and course teams to help improve teaching and learning at MIT.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with faculty and colleagues to identify, create, and disseminate information related to best instructional practices with digital technology
  • Design, build, and iteratively improve resources for faculty and course teams grounded in results from the learning engineering process; leading
  • Lead, coordinate, and organize educational outreach efforts through lecture series and other events
  • Support the Residential Groups’ publications and web presence by shaping content; creating and editing newsletters, articles, and announcements, promoting events/initiatives; and expanding its social media presence
  • Manage the systems and structures that are critical to communication strategy
  • Other duties as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, instructional design, learning engineering, learning sciences, communications, or related field
  • Five years’ relevant work experience (e.g., faculty development, higher education communication, or academic support)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience planning and running events for groups of faculty
  • Proficiency with learning science principles and research-based teaching practices and maintaining and editing online resources Understanding of the learning engineering process and how it can be part of instructional improvement
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and subject matter experts to capture stories of their instructional approaches in order to disseminate across broad audiences
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a team and with individuals with diverse skills at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to remain flexible, acquire new skills as necessary, and work in and adapt to a highly fluid organization
