Fairfield University — Associate Professor of Communication

The Department of Communication at Fairfield University’s College of Arts and Sciences is seeking an Associate Professor of Communication in the general area of Health Communication to direct our graduate program. Potential areas of specialization could include: Health campaigns; Patient-provider communication; Health profession pedagogy; Palliative care/end-of-life communication; Organizational Communication; Barriers to health access; Health disparities/inequities; Racial and Social Justice; Social Media and health; Diversity & Inclusion; and/or Training & Development.

The ideal candidate will direct our MA program, and will work closely with the Department Chair on curricular planning, managing course enrollment, and graduate program assessment. Qualified applicants will: hold a PhD in Communication, have credentials commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor, administrative experience, and a vision for online education.

The Department of Communication offers a traditional 36-hour MA and a separate graduate certificate in Health Communication for healthcare professionals. The certificate is designed for nurses, physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice registered nurses, or other providers. Our program is offered in both face-to-face and online formats. We are looking for a visionary candidate who can blend theory with practice for a program designed for working adults in the New York City metropolitan area.

Fairfield’s Department of Communication offers undergraduate majors in Communication, Public Relations, and Sports Media. Content is delivered by 10 tenure-track and tenured faculty and one Professor of Practice. The undergraduate program is among the largest in the College of Arts and Sciences.
