California State Polytechnic University, Pomona — Assistant Professor, Environmental or Health Justice

BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT 

The Biological Sciences Department at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in Environmental or Health Justice, beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year. The area of specialty is open. Areas of expertise could include (in alphabetical order) ecology, environmental biology, environmental toxicology, epidemiology, ethnobiology, health disparities, human population genetics, parasitology, physiology, tropical and neglected diseases or a related field. The new hire will be a part of the Ethnic Studies Affinity Faculty and will have the opportunity to engage with a new and permanent Office of Ethnic Studies Affinity Teaching and Scholarship. 

Required Qualifications: A terminal degree (e.g. Ph.D. or M.D.) in the area of the candidate’s biological expertise or a related science discipline is required. Previous teaching experience and postdoctoral experience are highly preferred. The successful candidate will have the potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching, for developing an externally funded research program that will involve undergraduate and Master’s students, and for collaborating with other faculty at CPP. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to student success through teaching, scholarship, or service, as demonstrated by a Student Success Statement addressing at least two of the inclusive excellence criteria listed in the full position description. Duties and responsibilities: The applicant will be expected to assist in curriculum development, advise students, serve on academic committees, and engage in professional activities. Teaching responsibilities will be tailored to the areas of interest and expertise of the successful applicant. Candidates must be open to developing and teaching a general education course that meets the requirements for Area F Ethnic Studies courses (described near the end of the website). Candidates are encouraged to teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to their area of specialty. Cal Poly Pomona is a comprehensive Master’s university with a diverse student body.
