The Next Chancellor of the North Orange County Community College District in California

Byron D. Clift Breland has been appointed the new chancellor of the North  Orange County Community College District in California. As chancellor, Dr. Breland will serve as the chief executive officer for a district that includes Cypress  College, Fullerton College, and North Orange Continuing Education. He will assume his new position on January 18.

“I truly appreciate the confidence in me to serve as the next chancellor,” said Dr. Breland. “I am impressed with the District’s continued focus on providing excellence in teaching and learning and its dedication to innovation in instruction and support services including the mental health and well-being of students. NOCCCD’s deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice are inspiring  – these sound principles help to serve and meet the unique and diverse needs of the community.”

Dr. Breland has more than 25 years of administrative and teaching experience in higher education and currently serves as chancellor of the San Jose Evergreen Community College District located in Silicon Valley. From 2013 to 2018 he was president of San José City College.

Dr. Breland earned a bachelor’s degree in consumer economics and a master’s degree in family studies from the University of Maryland, College Park. He holds a master’s degree in education and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Southern California.
