What we want
The Telecomm, Security & Surveillance Systems Tech II, performs routine on-site and off-site coordination, troubleshooting, repair, and upgrade on Telecommunications, Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) Systems equipment to include interpretation of self-diagnostic information, operation of various hardware and software diagnostic test equipment, installation, configuration, and operation of various operating systems, backup and recovery of data, installation and configuration of Telecommunications, Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) hardware upgrades, assisting with troubleshooting of Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) signals, assisting with Telecommunications, Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) Systems repairs.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in electronics technology, or certificate of advanced electronics technology training, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Telecommunications, Security, and/or Surveillance Systems equipment

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of people
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree
  • Certification or additional experience in any or all of the following: CATV installation, DC Plant/ battery maintenance or installation, Surveillance/Security system installation or maintenance, Distributed Antenna System, Wireless Radio and mobile network signal

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • BICSI ITS Installer 1 or higher, Electrical Certification

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of how to support CATV, DC Plant/ batteries/electrical, Surveillance/Security systems, and cabling

Preferred Other Factors:

  • Available for rotating on-call scheduling

Responsibilities:

  • Routine Administrative Functions – Provides project status reports. Develops and maintains good customer and vendor relations. Follows vendor warranty procedures. Utilizes departmental inventory control procedures.  Coordinates with university departments such as: utilities, facilities, networking, etc. in conjunction with vendors of mobile network 5G equipment.
  • Routine on-site and off-site troubleshooting, repair, and upgrade on telecommunications, security, and surveillance systems – Interprets Telecommunications, Security, and Surveillance Systems self-diagnostic information. Operates various hardware and software diagnostic test equipment. Installs, configures, and operates various operating systems. Backs up and recovers data. Installs and configures Telecommunications, Security, and Surveillance Systems hardware upgrades. Assists with troubleshooting of analog circuits to the component level. Assists with Telecommunications, Security, and Surveillance Systems repairs. Installs and maintains test kits, tests radio frequency signals and network ports and performs Telecommunications, Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) self-tests and interpreting error codes.  Test serial, parallel, and network ports. Performs Telecommunications, Security, and Surveillance self-tests and interpret error codes.  Performs walk-testing or drive-testing of Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) signals in and around Texas A&M University facilities.
  • Common Duties – Uses standard references, resource, procedural materials, and assistance from more senior staff and Telecom Engineers to resolve problems. Develops an understanding of departmental or project quality standards. Develops higher levels of technical skill and knowledge by participating in on-the-job-training, formal education, or other professional development activities. Provides training for student workers.
  • Professional Development – Participates in training and professional development sessions. Performs other duties as assigned.
