What we want
The Telecomm, Security & Surveillance Systems Technician IV, monitors and performs complex maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various types of Telecommunications, Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) Systems equipment. Develops procedures for routine Telecommunications, Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) Systems equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Serves as the lead trainer for Telecommunications, Security, and Surveillance Systems Technicians I, II, and III.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in electronics technology, or certificate of advanced electronics technology training, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Four years of experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Telecommunications, Security, and/or Surveillance Systems equipment

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Electronic Technology
  • More than four years of experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Telecommunications, Security, and/or Surveillance Systems equipment

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • BICSI Certification, prefer industry recognized certifications

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced electronics technology training and/or two years of experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Phone Systems, Telecommunications, Security, and/or Surveillance Systems equipment

Responsibilities:

  • Phone Support Services – Monitors, researches new procedures, and performs on-site and off-site coordinating, troubleshooting, repair, and upgrade on Telecommunications, Wireless Radio, DAS, and 5G Systems equipment to include interpretation of Telecommunications, Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) Systems self-diagnostic information, operation of various hardware and software diagnostic test equipment, installation, configuration, and operation of various operating systems, initialization of hard drives, backup and recovery of hard drive, installation and configuration Telecommunications, Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) Systems hardware upgrades, performing troubleshooting of radio signals, installation of maintenance kits, and network ports, performing Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) self-tests and interpreting error codes.
  • Network Support – Monitors, researches new procedures, and performs on-site and off-site troubleshooting, repair, and upgrade on Telecommunications, Security, and Surveillance Systems equipment to include interpretation of Telecommunications, Security, and Surveillance Systems self-diagnostic information, operation of various hardware and software diagnostic test equipment, installation, configuration, and operation of various operating systems, initialization of hard drives, backup and recovery of hard drive, installation and configuration Telecommunications, Security, and Surveillance Systems hardware upgrades, performing troubleshooting of analog circuits to the component level, installation of maintenance kits, running printer error logs, testing serial, parallel, and network ports, performing printer self-tests and interpreting error codes.
  • Administrative Support – Assists Telecom Engineers in researching new procedures. Monitors and performs various administrative functions to include providing project status reports, development and maintenance of good customer and vendor relations, following vendor warranty procedures and utilizing departmental inventory control procedures. Performs the following core duties: uses, researches, modifies, and helps develop standard references, resource, and procedural materials.
  • Technical Leadership – Provides assistance to other Telecommunications, Security, and Surveillance Systems Technicians I, II, and III and student workers to resolve problems. Assists in monitoring Telecommunications, DAS, and radio systems team work to make sure that all work is accurate and in compliance with departmental or project quality standards. Develops high levels of technical skill and knowledge by participating in on-the-job-training, formal education, or other professional development activities.  Leads walk-testing or drive-testing of Wireless Radio, Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and mobile network (5G) signals in and around Texas A&M University facilities.  Leads coordination with university departments such as: utilities, facilities, networking, etc in conjunction with vendors of 5G equipment.  Occasionally performs limited or back-up supervision duties.
  • Professional Development – Participates in training and professional development sessions. Performs other duties as assigned.
