What we want
Functions as an expert systems administrator engaged in developing, maintaining, installing, and using operating complex systems or subsystems. Provides consulting, technical support, and training to users and technical staff. Delivers field install/support (telephone & on- site), including server and systems storage hardware, network environments, and related software applications. Provides support for critical subsystems. The ideal candidate will be willing to participate in on-call rotation. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience (One year of experience may substitute for one year of education)
  • Three years of systems administration experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • May work nights and weekends as needed

Preferred Experience:

  • Two years of experience with Linux server (Redhat, SLES and CentOS) setup, administration and support
  • One year of experience with Solar Winds
  • One year of experience with Citrix or F5 load balancer administration
  • Experience with Linux server management using SpaceWalk, SALT or other Linux server administration tools

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • ITIL Foundations, PMP

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced cross-disciplined IT skills, advanced analysis and troubleshooting/problem-solving, client relations skills, requirement assessment and analysis, project management methodology, understands context/interrelationships, and proficiency of ITIL

Preferred Other Factors:

  • Willing to participate in on-call rotation

Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Systems Administration and Operation – Administers complex security infrastructure systems. Helps design and implement new infrastructure systems or upgrades. Installs and configures infrastructure system software and hardware. Provides technical oversight of infrastructure systems testing and application; and conducts infrastructure systems performance analyses and tuning. Assists with routine audits of systems and software. Manages underlying systems that collect, store and process logs and events as the presence of this technology is expanded across the Texas A&M network.
  • Problem Management – Analyzes security infrastructure system logs and identifies potential issues with systems. Troubleshoots and repairs complex hardware and software for infrastructure systems. Troubleshoots and repairs configuration problems. Troubleshoots routine network problems. Provides Tier II and assists with Tier III support. Evaluates and follows through on issues and problems until resolved or escalated.
  • Common Duties – May coordinate the technical activities of a small project team; assists and mentors other employees in resolving various issues. Participates with management personnel in planning, direction, and coordinating operational and/or procedural matters to meet goals and objectives. May produce reports and summaries for management and/or users including status reports, problem reports, progress summaries, and system utilization reports. Participates in change management and problem tracking. Performs all or some of the duties of a Infrastructure Administrator.
  • Project Planning Support – Assists the project leader with developing work plan and time schedules for projects including outlining phases and identifying personnel and computing equipment requirements.
  • Data Security – Performs annual security assessments. Helps design infrastructure system security measures and data backup and protection methods. Helps develop disaster recovery plans for infrastructure systems.
  • New Technology Planning, Evaluation, Deployment and System Integration Testing – Implements the evaluation of new technologies to determine their applicability to the client’s needs. Implements new technology deployments and system integration testing.
  • Technical Consultation – Researches, recommends, specifies, and plans for security infrastructure system hardware and software purchases in support of the enterprise’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • System Testing – Executes test plans for systems upgrades or releases.
  • Professional Development – Participates in training and professional development sessions. Performs other duties as assigned.
