What we want
The Information Technology Enterprise Architect (ITEA), under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Research & Education Networks and Enterprise Facilities Operations, serves as the chief technical advisor and consultant for enterprise network and network security architecture, design, integration, configuration, and implementation and management of computer networks, local area networks, wide area networks, internet, intranet, cloud, convergence, and other data communication systems. The ITEA is responsible for designing and maintaining a roadmap for network and related IT applications, medium and long-term strategies and business proposals, and services using a service-oriented architecture approach. The ITEA oversees and forms IT project teams of senior level subject matter experts using internal and external resources to successfully complete IT projects. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ten years of industry specific experience managing and operating enterprise-level networks in large, diverse IT service environments in a service provider model

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be proficient in network architecture and design, network operations in a large, enterprise service provider environment
  • Ability to provide in-depth analysis and solutions in a short amount of time
  • Knowledge and experience in the enterprise grade LAN/WAN architecture and infrastructure, design, development, monitoring, implementation, administration, and management of large, service provider network(s)
  • Skills in strategic thinking, research, and planning to include: creativity/innovation, design theory, advanced systems theory, risk management, disaster recovery & business continuity, integrating solutions, leveraging strategic resources, strategic partnering, conflict management, incident management and advanced change management
  • Strategic technical skills to include, developing discipline specific expertise in others, enterprise-level policies, and advanced technology research and design skills
  • Industry related skills to include, in-depth knowledge of the global IT industry and trends, advanced knowledge of network technologies and architectures, and advanced knowledge of current and emerging IT industry issues and trends

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Degree in information technology, engineering or related field
  • Experience with Juniper, Cisco and Aruba network architectures and technologies
  • Extensive experience in the implementation and technical operations of service provider networks using the BGP protocol famly, MPLS and EVPN/VLAN
  • Current and applied knowledge and experience with a wide range of OEM platforms and network service delivery models
  • Knowledge and experience with network frameworks and methodologies including those that support cloud computing, high performance research computing, delivery of consumer services, and LAN, WAN, nation-wide and international services including universities

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of BGP, MPLS, EXVPN/VXLAN, software defined networking solution, network engineering, applications and public and private cloud infrastructures and services
  • Scripting or programming capabilities, or the understand of same, in Python or any other languages
  • Working knowledge of internal and external routing and switching protocols, domain name system (DNS), dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), proxy functions, security protocols, time protocols, tag and label switching, real-time protocols for voice and/or wide area network (WAN) communication protocols
  • Knowledge of network system analysis and design techniques for voice (wireless and wired), video, and data


  • Division Representation – Represent the Division of IT during University and System meetings, workshops or training sessions. Serve on university, system-wide committees and industry reference groups. Serve as a technical resource for other technical teams or organizations. Serve on enterprise level committees to develop technical standards and direction. Serve a chair or senior member of an information resource team/s responsible for setting technical standards and strategic direction. Prepare and deliver presentation across a broad range of audiences.
  • Compliance – Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and laws, A&M System policies, regulations and rules.
  • Strategic Research and Planning – Lead and coordinate short and long-term analysis on network and network systems and services. Coordinate the development of project plans, problem resolutions and service roadmaps and make recommendations. Establish quantity and quality standards, procedures and guidelines for design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of enterprise network solutions. Contribute to the planning of the overall organizational IT strategy. Recommend information architecture standards and methodologies. Implements network framework by defining principles, best practices, and standards along with cost analysis models and vendor comparisons.
  • Direction and Leadership – Collaborate with enterprise stakeholders to coordinate the development of specifications-based strategies and solutions for enterprise networks. Maintain, establish, and develop new strategic partnerships with executive management, stakeholders, customers, researchers and vendors. Serve as a chair or senior member of an information resource team responsible for setting technical standards and strategic direction. Participate in industry/knowledge reference groups. May recruit, hire, and supervise a variety of technical staff. Enforce ethical, regulatory, and performance standards. May oversee and manage personnel issues.
  • Problem Change Management – Supervise the development of standard operating procedures for strategic technology teams. Oversee the approval and coordination of documentation provided to executive management, customers, stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Professional Development – Participate in training and professional development with special emphasis on leadership development, industry/technology related acumen, and project/operations management. Perform other duties as assigned.
