Job Description:
SUNY Empire State College seeks an Enrollment Specialist (State Title: Staff Assistant) to join The Begin Team.

It is the primary role of The Begin Team to provide a high touch welcome to support the successful enrollment of accepted undergraduate students. The team also encourages and supports non-matriculating students. Begin performs proactive outreach to those new students in danger of cancellation for non-payment for registered courses, as well as other campaigns that support conversion and retention of new students. The Begin Team is an enrollment management strategy to meet accepted undergraduate students’ objections and support their decision to choose SUNY Empire State College to complete their education.

An Enrollment Specialist is the primary contact for accepted students. This effort includes clear, concise communications to new students upon acceptance; improve processes for ease of enrollment; clarify financial aid processes; utilize college enterprise resource planning and customer relations management tools, Microsoft Office suite, and social media and engagement platforms; provide access for new students who need individualized assistance; and resolve administrative barriers to enrollment. Personalized communication involves telephone, email, social media private conversations, and face-to-face contact with new students.

The successful candidate will improve and provide resources to accepted students so that they have access to the necessary information that will help them realize the goal of starting their degree.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an ability to:

  • Collaborate with team members and colleagues across the college
  • Work closely with other Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs offices
  • Work independently using proven customer service skills and experience with college and government policies

The successful candidate will be expected to use college technology applications to record, support and monitor activities and outcomes. This individual must have a comprehensive understanding of technological systems to improve the services provided by the college.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-3 years of experience working in higher education
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication
  • Experience working with new students
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrate experience as an effective team player
  • Demonstrate facility with use of Microsoft Office suite, with particular regard to Outlook, Excel, and Teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in a higher education setting with Banner
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management software
  • Demonstrated understanding of state and federal financial aid
  • Experience with management and monitoring of a social media group site
  • Experience with Argos reporting

Special Information:

  • Work Hours: 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with one hour for lunch, occasional evening hours during peak times and college events.
  • This position can be located at one of our Selden, Hartsdale, Saratoga Springs, Rochester, or Manhattan locations.
  • This position is part of a geographically disbursed team within New York State.
  • Occasional travel for training, professional development, and location visits.
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.

Additional Information:

Rank/Salary: SL2/$48,000 (Commensurate with experience).
