Stony Brook University's Creative Writing and Literature Program seeks a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Creative Writing to start September 1, 2022. This position carries a 3/2 teaching load of creative writing and creative writing based literature courses, as well as thesis direction, and advising at both the undergraduate and graduate level on two campuses, located within an hour's commute of each other. Undergraduate courses are held at Stony Brook; graduate courses are held in Southampton. Creative Writing and Literature is the flagship program in an entrepreneurial, innovative, and team-based department that offers in addition to the MFA, BFA, and Minor in Creative Writing, MFAs and Minors in Film and Television Writing. During July, the program offers workshops for visiting students through the Southampton Writers Conference. Writers Speak, its reading series, brings writers of national reputation in all literary genres to campus. TSR: The Southampton Review, its literary magazine, publishes original writing and artwork from established and emerging voices. BookEnds, is the program's one-year intensive program for manuscript development. The successful candidate will contribute to these activities in various capacities, as well as to regular administrative duties in the program, such as admissions and future searches. Faculty members with leadership roles receive course release. Opportunities to teach at the Manhattan Center for Creative Writing and Film may be occasionally possible according to program need. Early career, writers of color, LGBTQ+, as well diverse voices are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a strong record of publication, including at least one book-length work of literary merit from a respected press; an M.F.A. in Creative Writing or the equivalent, such as a B.A. with an exceptionally strong record of publication in at least one genre or a PhD with a strong record of publication in at least one genre; and evidence of successful teaching on the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications: Publication in and the ability to teach in multiple genres. Experience in teaching culturally diverse curricula. Interest and/or experience in program leadership in a team environment, as, for example advising a student literary journal or building a reading series. Academic and/or community service.
