Massachusetts Institute of Technology — Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab Manager for Community Engagement

MIT Open Learning seeks a manager for community engagement to work towards an essential strategic priority of the Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL)–building an ever-stronger global online and in-person community of educators working towards educational change. Will also support communications output and event management/organization.

J-WEL promotes excellence and transformation in education at MIT and worldwide. The J-WEL membership team supports that mission by convening and supporting a global community of educators. J-WEL members are institutions represented by faculty, teachers, administrators, and policy makers. A central goal is to facilitate deep community dialogue and engagement towards sustainable educational impact.


  • Conceptualize, design, organize, and deliver/enable events to build community in coordination with other J-WEL team members
  • Set and implement social media and communication campaigns/activities
  • Flag and follow up on opportunities for J-WEL (programs, activities, scholarship, publications, events)
  • Provide input on website development to serve community engagement purposes
  • Work across J-WEL units and as part of the membership team

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least five years’ related work experience
  • Experience as a facilitator
  • Knowledge of online tools
  • Experience launching and supporting community initiatives (e.g., building an online forum; launching a community-based program, ideally in the education space, specifically higher education, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to develop engaging community-building/engagement programming and facilitate online and offline conversations and activities with a community of educators
  • Experience with international audiences
  • Ability to identify and track relevant community metrics
  • Flexibility
  • Initiative
  • Ability to work independently and plan work effectively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual language skills, particularly Spanish
  • Marketing and communications experience
