In Memoriam: Richard A. Williams, 1946-2021

Richard A. Williams, the former director of affirmative action programs at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, died on November 3. He was 75 years old.

Williams was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania and went on to obtain a master’s degree in education from what is now The College of New Jersey in Trenton.

Williams held administrative posts at Bloomfield College in New Jersey and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth before joining the staff at Rowan Univerity in 1984. He remained on the staff at the university until 2008. In 2010, Williams filed a race discrimination lawsuit against the university claiming that he was demoted and forced to retire in retaliation for testimony in a reverse discrimination case.
