Coastal Carolina University — Benefits Specialist

Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for a Benefits Specialist (Human Resources Specialist).

Reporting to the Benefits Administrator, this position will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day aspects of administering benefits and retirement; conducting new employee orientations; assisting in coordinating events for assigned areas; assisting with special projects; creating benefits communication materials; maintaining the benefits web page and related forms; assisting with updating and reconciling the monthly benefit offers associated with the Affordable Care Act (ACA); researching benefit discrepancies; serving as main contact for vendors to schedule campus visits. Must be able to correctly interpret, apply and explain state policies, procedures, regulations and statutes in a timely manner.

Position requires a high school diploma and related experience or equivalent education, training and experience. A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required. Familiarity with public insurance/retirement programs and managing events is preferred. Experience with page layout programs such as Publisher is preferred. Successful candidate should have: demonstrated proficiency in written, oral and interpersonal communications; strong computer and organizational skills; the ability to carry out sensitive assignments with absolute confidentiality and professionalism; work with a wide range of constituents and resolve problems/disputes; navigate multiple on-line systems; handle highly emotional situations tactfully; manage multiple tasks/deadlines with frequent interruptions; and maintain effective working relationships.

Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university. Some overnight travel is required.
