The University of Toledo Foundation — Assistant Vice President of Development

Manage directors of development and other fundraising staff to design and implement strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts to benefit The University of Toledo. Develop and implement a comprehensive Foundation Relations program to build relationships with Foundations to solicit charitable grants in support of University priorities.

The following duties reflect management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

  1. Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor directors of development and other fundraising staff.
  2. Develop and lead efforts to grow philanthropic support for the University, in cooperation with the Vice President for Advancement and the Sr. Associate Vice President for Development.
  3. Develop relationships with local, regional, and national Foundations in order to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants in support of the University’s priorities.
  4. Coordinate Foundation gift and grant opportunities with the appropriate members of the fundraising team.
  5. Implement stewardship opportunities for existing corporate/foundation donors.
  6. Maintain a strong working relationship with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to maximize foundation funding.
  7. Travel commensurate with standard expectations for fundraising activity and contact to reach donors locally, regionally, and nationally.
  8. Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree and/or CFRE designation preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years professional fundraising experience required. Experience in higher education fundraising preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Demonstrated writing and research skills.
