About the Position 

The School of Kinesiology in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of  Minnesota, Twin Cities is seeking an outstanding candidate to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor  position in Kinesiology with a specialization in Sport Management. We seek nominations and  applications who have the potential to be a national and international leader in sport management and  contribute to research, teaching, and service with particular emphasis on strategic management,  innovation, and/or entrepreneurship. 

This is a 9-month, full-time appointment with a target start date of August 2022. 


This position will: 

Research (50%) 

  • Develop and sustain an active and independent research program in the sport management  specializations of strategy management, innovation, and/or entrepreneurship.
  • Contribute to the research and engagement activities of the sport management program as  well as the opportunity to collaborate with scholars in the Global Institute for Responsible  Sport Organizations, which is an international research institute devoted to generating  knowledge to assist sport organizations in fulfilling their social responsibilities within  communities.
  • Seek and secure internal and external funding to support research and other scholarly work.
  • Disseminate research findings through publication and presentation in the scientific  community.

Teach (40%) 

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Sport Management.
  • Mentor and advise masters and doctoral students for thesis and dissertation research.

Service (10%) 

  • Participate in service at the departmental, college, and University levels, as well as in one’s  professional field and within the local community.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • An earned doctorate, Ph.D. in sport management, or a related field (e.g., Strategy management, Entrepreneurship) with degree conferred before the start date of the hire. 
  • Focused research agenda and potential for sustained research productivity in sport strategy,  innovation, and/or entrepreneurship as demonstrated by publications in high-quality, peer reviewed scientific journals and refereed presentations at scientific conferences.
  • Potential for receiving extramural funding to support research and other scholarly work.
  • Potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Sport Management.
  • Potential for success in the advising and mentoring of graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Expertise and commitment needed to make substantial contributions toward the research  productivity of the Sport Management program.
  • Experience conducting interdisciplinary and collaborative research with colleagues in other  related fields of Kinesiology and within the broader scientific community.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Sport Management.
