Assistant Director for Undergraduate Student Engagement

The Penn State College of Engineering seeks an innovative leader for the position of Assistant Director for Undergraduate Student Engagement. The Assistant Director will report directly to the Director of Undergraduate Student Engagement and be a strategic member of the College of Engineering student support team. They will play a critical role in the development, management, and implementation of student engagement programs for both prospective and current students. This role will support all aspects of student engagement from design, budget management, marketing development, student leadership development, program assessment, and benchmarking best practices with the ultimate goal of enhancing sense of belonging and building the capacity of all students as allies in a welcoming community.

Specifically, the Assistant Director will supervise the Engineering Student Tour and Resource (ESTAR) group, which is responsible for engaging with prospective students during their decision making process; lead the ongoing development of the Impact Scholars program, grounded in the Social Change Model, to help build student capacity as change makers; support the event planning and implementation of large scale prospective and accepted student programs; develop, promote, and facilitate opportunities for current students to earn micro-credentials in areas such as leadership, project management, communication, and mentorship. Additionally, the Assistant Director will serve as a primary contact for engineering student organizations and supporting student leader development.

This position typically requires a Master's degree in higher education/student affairs, social science, or a STEM-related discipline plus one-three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must be innovative, collaborative and the have leadership potential to contribute effectively to the College of Engineering mission. This position requires excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and the ability to present ideas, concepts, and instructions in a clear manner. The ability to effectively build interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff and additional program stakeholders such as parents, corporate sponsors, and alumni is essential.

Essential strengths include but are not limited to project management and coordination, public speaking and communication proficiency, high energy and creativity, capacity to collaborate effectively across multiple work units, problem solving, knowledge of survey tools, experience in technology applications to support student success, and exceptional judgement. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required to best support student programming.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
