Job Summary

As an integral member of the HGSE Social Impact and Lifelong Learning (SILL) senior leadership team, the Senior Director of Business Operations will join a dynamic group of colleagues focused on empowering educators to build competencies, skills, and networks necessary to have positive impact in the field of education. In partnership with the Senior Associate Dean, the Senior Director oversees strategy, assessment, development, and execution of operational strategies to enable the department to effectively scale its impact and increase revenue in a sustainable manner. The Senior Director will oversee all business operations including the Professional Education marketing and admissions teams. This role also presents an exciting opportunity to build the SILL Constituent Management team, which will serve the needs of our unit as well as the needs of other HGSE faculty, research, and administrative teams. Job-Specific Responsibilities

Strategic Visioning and Operational Oversight

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight of Professional Education business operation teams, including development of a long-term business model that supports the mission, vision, and goals of the organization (e.g., impact at scale)
  • Design and implement processes, systems, and policies regarding program/asset creation, expansion, or modality transfer to standardize practices across all Business Operations teams
  • Participate in and contribute to the identification of new markets, products, and services for prospective Professional Education participants
  • Lead the creation and implementation of a Constituent Management team that serves SILL as well as HGSE-wide engagement needs, with a focus on strategic use of SalesForce technology
  • Partner with HGSE IT, Finance, Marketing & Communications, and other units in assessing potential tools and strategies to ensure consistent institutional use and sustained, coordinated constituent engagement
  • Sustain and strengthen critical partnerships between Professional Education and on-campus units (e.g., HR, Teaching and Learning Lab, Alumni Relations, Career Services, Operations, etc.), and external vendors/service-providers to ensure workstreams are coordinated
  • Lead efforts to define and measure HGSE’s impact in the field, along with strategies for ongoing assessment of key performance indicators
  • Ensure high-quality support for faculty throughout their experience working with Professional Education
  • Participate in unit-, School-, and/or University-wide activities, committees, and work groups as needed

Team and Organizational Leadership

  • Evaluate existing business operations procedures and processes to ensure maximum coordination, synergy, and efficiencies amongst Professional Education team members
  • Supervise the Director of Marketing and Admissions Manager
  • Convene team members on a regular basis to ensure cohesion and transparent, collaborative decision-making
  • Lead Marketing and Admissions team meetings
  • Build shared hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development practices for Professional Education staff
  • Support and lead efforts to ensure Professional Education’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Model inclusive leadership in team meetings, hiring actions, performance management, opportunities for growth, and mentorship
  • Serve as a resource to all direct reports, stepping in as needed to provide additional support and/or coverage

Resource Management

  • High-level oversight of Marketing and Admissions budgets, working with team members to ensure expenses and projections are accurate and within financial allocations
  • Develop and oversee the Constituent Management budget, in partnership with HGSE Finance and the Senior Associate Dean
  • Provide guidance and advocacy about resource allocation to ensure high-quality development and delivery of Professional Education offerings

Basic Qualifications

B.A./B.S. required; Minimum 7 years progressively responsible experience managing and leading a complex organization or program; experience leading and managing senior staff; experience managing budgets.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

MBA or other advanced degree in education or management-related field preferred. Experience managing a dynamic, fast-paced business organization serving multiple constituencies. Demonstrated strategic planning skills and experience, particularly in scaling operations and improving processes. Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with a range of stakeholders. Effective team-building skills and experience motivating, supervising, and supporting staff to achieve organizational goals. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational, analytical, financial, planning and management skills. High level of attention to detail and an ability to set direction for outstanding service across multiple functions. Willingness to provide ground-level support as needed, including at night and/or on weekends during busy periods. Experience with SalesForce desirable.
