College of Charleston — Assistant Professor of Arts Management

The Arts Management Program in the School of the Arts at the College of Charleston invites applications for the Assistant Professor of Arts Management position beginning August 2022. We are seeking a candidate with a specialization in fundraising and grant writing in the arts and in one or more of the following areas: creativity, arts marketing, entrepreneurship, and/or technology. Candidates with a background and current connection to an arts discipline as well as a demonstrated interest in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in our program and in arts and cultural organizations are especially welcome to apply.

Responsibilities include teaching six courses per year. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to regularly conduct research, engage with arts and cultural organizations, contribute to program development, advise and mentor undergraduate students, and perform service to the College, community, and arts management profession.

Minimum Credentials: A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in arts management or a closely related field is required (if the degree is in a related field, at least 18 hours of arts management-related graduate coursework is required). A.B.D. candidates with an expected completion by August 16, 2022 will be considered.

The successful candidate will have 3-5+ years of experience in arts management which can include a combination of teaching arts management and closely related courses in colleges and universities, and management experience in the arts management field. Candidates with undergraduate teaching experience and online teaching are preferred. Candidates without online teaching experience will be asked to complete an online education readiness course at the College of Charleston.

Arts Management Program: The undergraduate Arts Management Program is one of the few programs of its kind in the Southeast and has approximately 200 majors, including a Concentration in the Music Industry. Additionally, the Program is home to the Graduate Certificate in Arts and Cultural Management with connections to the Master of Public Administration and Master of Fine Arts, Creative Writing programs. The Arts Management Program has close ties with local and state level arts and cultural institutions including Spoleto Festival USA, the Charleston Gaillard Center, the South Carolina Arts Alliance, and the South Carolina Arts Commission.
