Description:
The CalArts School of Theater, one of the foremost performance programs in the world, is seeking a dynamic Voice Instructor for a full time faculty position to begin in Fall of 2022. Outstanding national and international applicants are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate is a practicing professional with a firm commitment to teaching, a dedication to working with a culturally, economically and intellectually diverse community of artists, and an interest in engaging the major questions of vocal performance in the 21st century. 

We seek candidates who have significant experience with and exposure to various voice techniques as they apply to the art of acting and performance. 

CalArts has a multidisciplinary approach to its studies of the arts through six schools: Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film/Video, Music and Theater. CalArts encourages students to explore and recognize the complexity of the many aspects of the arts. It is supported by a distinguished faculty of practicing artists and provides its Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts students with the hands-on training and exposure necessary for an artist’s growth. CalArts was founded in 1961 and opened in 1969 as the first institution of higher learning in the United States specifically for students interested in the pursuit of degrees in all areas of visual and performing arts.

Responsibilities: 

  • Teaching Voice skills to undergraduate and graduate students
  • Mentoring students
  • Vocal coaching for productions
  • Participation in program and school-wide administrative matters. 

Requirements:

  • Demonstrable professional and/or academic experience in Acting with emphasis in stage voice. 
  • Candidates with an MFA degree or demonstrable, equivalent professional experience in working in significant productions, in residence in cultural institutions or certified training programs. 
  • Certification in or significant, evidenced experience with innovative approaches to voice training such as Linklater vocal training, Roy Hart Theatre voice methods, and/or any additional training methods.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Professional acting experience.

Candidates for this position must legally be able to work in the U.S.
