WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS, Departments of Education and African and African American Studies – Associate or Full Professor. The Departments of Education and African and African-American Studies (AFAS) at Washington University in St. Louis, invite applicants at the tenured associate professor or full professor level in Education Policy with a distinguished and recognized record of research (including theory and methodology) and pedagogy conducted within the frameworks of race, equity, and social justice. This joint hire is part of a university-wide race and ethnicity cluster hire initiative to build a world-class research program on race and ethnicity, throughout the University. Duties will include conducting research, writing for publication, teaching assigned courses, advising students, participating in departmental governance, and providing university-wide service.

Successful candidates will hold the rank of tenured associate professor or full professor commensurate with the scholarly research productivity at a research I institution (i.e. universities in the United States that engage in the highest levels of research activity). Candidates will have a well-defined, yet innovative theoretical and empirical interests in the study of education systems, schooling and race as such foci intersect with one or more of the following areas: policy studies, public health, anthropology, history, political science, economics, law, sociology, geography, psychology, philosophy, gender studies, among others. Individuals with a research focus on STEM, STEAM, or STEAMM issues are particularly encouraged to apply. A keen understanding and appreciation of the issues of underachievement and the lived experiences of the urban poor and their families are essential. In addition, ideal candidates are expected to have a strong methodological background in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods research and demonstrate a commitment to open science.   7. Two article-length publications (no more than 10, 000 words each) that demonstrate scholarly work in Education Policy conducted within the frameworks of race, equity, and social justice
