Northeast Ohio Medical University — Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs

The Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs is responsible for providing overall leadership and oversight of the clinical faculty and sites that provide clinical education experiences to students. This position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and is responsible for the strategic oversight of clinical partnerships. This is a part time position (0.5 – 0.8 FTE), the successful incumbent is expected to maintain an active clinical role.

Principal Functional Responsibilities

  1. OVERSIGHT OF CLINICAL SITES & EXTERNAL PARTNERS: Oversees the identification and development of new clinical sites for NEOMED students. Assists with affiliation agreements, funding mechanisms and contracts to facilitate/support clinical teaching programs in cooperation with the NEOMED Offices of the Dean, Administration and Finance. Provides oversight to ensure that needs and expectations of the clinical sites are managed in accordance with the clinical contracts. Oversee and maintain follow-up planning with external partnerships including clinical partners. Oversees clinical faculty onboarding, administrative processing of faculty appointments and faculty career development.
  2. CURRICULAR: Works in conjunction with the Sr Associate Dean of Medical Education, Associate Dean for Clinical and Experiential Education and the Director of Faculty Development to oversee and assess the preparation, quality and effectiveness of individual faculty teaching including resident teaching. Consults with the Associate Dean for Clinical and Experiential Education to ensure that the delivery of the clinical curriculum is consistent throughout all sites and delivered in a coordinated manner. Fosters the development of interprofessional education. Participate in all quality improvement activities surrounding clinical curriculum. May also serve in a teaching capacity.
  3. EVALUATION & ASSESSMENT: Leads ongoing and special evaluations of all off-site curricula/teaching and preparation of all pertinent documentation/reports. Provides timely and appropriate data on all residency activities, administrative changes, and ongoing program needs as requested (including all composite data sets as required by state programs or accreditors). Oversees evaluation system for core clinical faculty.
  4. ACCREDITATION & STRATEGIC PLANNING: Ensures that the school is in compliance with all LCME standards that relate to the clinical component of the medical students’ experience. Participates in strategic planning and accreditation activities for the College of Medicine.
  5. STUDENTS:  Provides leadership in identification/problem-solving of student needs at clinical sites. Assist students as active educational ombudsman and be available for matters of personal student interest (including career counseling)
  6. COMMITTEES: Participates on those medical school committees deemed appropriate by the Dean. Chair the Council of Clinical Chairs and Site Director of Clinical Education. Attends the graduate medical education committee meetings of NEOMED’s major teaching hospitals, as necessary. Serves as liaison and advocate for NEOMED. Acts as consultant/advisor to the Dean.
  7. Other duties as assigned



  • M.D. or D.O. degree required.
  • Must be eligible for faculty appointment.


  • Experience and activities in teaching, research, administration and service to qualify for a senior level faculty appointment
  • Experience with graduate medical education, with an appreciation for the community hospitals as the setting for clinical instruction and the role of practicing physicians as clinical faculty.
