Baruch College — Associate Provost for Assessment, Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness

Baruch College is seeking a distinguished and dynamic academic leader for the position of Associate Provost for Assessment, Accreditation, and Institutional Effectiveness. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Associate Provost will bear primary responsibility for leading, managing, designing, developing, and implementing strategies to meet the college’s strategic goals college-wide and will collaborate with deans, directors, and members of the faculty on such strategies in Baruch College’s three schools. In short, the Associate Provost will assess and improve institutional effectiveness and student learning by collaborating with faculty and staff across the college, including members of the offices of: the Provost, enrollment management, student affairs, administration and finance, college advancement, and communications and marketing.

The Associate Provost will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team in work focused on the production and use of analytics, providing meaningful assessment and planning, and enabling data-informed decision-making that advances Baruch’s strategic goals and will lead and manage the preparation of the college’s accreditation reports, working with the Deans’ and Vice Presidents’ offices on accreditation efforts relevant to the individual Schools, departments, and administrative units. The Associate Provost will provide and manage assessment support for assessment in all academic programs, as well as for the development and assessment of new degree and certificate program proposals, and also will oversee and manage the development, implementation, and use of effective assessment methods in non-academic programs across the College.

Other responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead, design, manage, implement, and report on curricular and co-curricular assessment activities across the College and collaborate with the assessment directors and faculty on departmental and program assessments and the assessment and evaluation of certificate programs.
  • Lead and design special assessment projects with student support services.
  • Ensure that all assessment activities at the college are aligned with college’s strategic plan.
  • Create and implement strategic plans for the Office of Assessment and for the institution’s assessment operations and provide reports on College’s progress towards meeting those goals.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and staff on the development and assessment of new academic initiatives; and report on assessment and curricular changes for all academic units and programs.
  • Work closely with faculty and school administrators to assess student learning at the program, departmental, and institutional levels, including the development of learning goals and outcomes, the process of curricular/program mapping, the creation of assessment instruments including rubrics, and the analysis and presentation results for academic and co-curricular units.
  • Plan, implement, and assess student learning in institutional priority areas and provide recommendations to improve student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and staff to design, assess, and research academic support initiatives.
  • Inform faculty, administrators, and staff across the College about accreditation standards and requirements related to assessment and student learning.
  • Evaluate learning goals, assessment plans, practices and reports to confirm compliance with national and regional accreditation standards.
  • Contribute in the ongoing professional development activities to remain current within the field of education, assessment and evaluation, research methodologies, and expectations from the College’s several accrediting bodies.
  • Act as a point person for providing information for assessment and student learning reports to national and regional accreditors.
  • Serve as the College’s Middle States Liaison.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff within each of the three academic schools at the College, as well as student affairs, student support service units, academic affairs administration, and other co-curricular units.
  • Oversee and manage the annual budget of the assessment office.
  • Hire and train office staff on assessment and accreditation policies and practices and provide ongoing feedback to improve and support staff performance.
  • Manage multiple projects with staff by delegating office activities.

This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience.

Master’s Degree and eight (8) years of relevant work experience are required; doctorate in a relevant discipline is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be highly organized, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be familiar with the expectations of Middles States, AACSB, NASPAA, and other accrediting organizations regarding assessment procedures. The candidate should be able to demonstrate experience in academic outcomes assessment and knowledge of its best practices, including administering surveys, conducting focus groups, and collecting student work using a-portfolios. Experience with assessment of institutional effectiveness also will be important. The candidate should be able to work with statistical analysis software and spread sheet software to present, read, interpret, and explain basic descriptive and inferential statistics

In addition, the successful candidate must have strong analytical, critical thinking, and computer skills. Experience working in and leading teams is required. Must have experience implementing and driving organization-wide initiatives. The successful candidate will be a quick learner who acquires a detailed knowledge of College and University policies, procedures, and systems. Must be an enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to take initiative, use sound judgment to make decisions, and resolve problems diplomatically and discretely. Must work effectively with diverse groups and all levels of faculty, staff, and students plus build collaborative relationships with numerous College offices and external constituents and organizations. Must have strong organizational skills, with the ability to set priorities, manage multiple demands, and meet deadlines. A strong customer service orientation and attention to details are essential, along with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication, presentation, and networking skills.
