Soka University of America — Internship Coordinator Position Opening

Soka University of America is offering a full-time Internship Coordinator position. 

The Internship Coordinator is responsible for providing students and alumni career-based guidance and support for internship facilitation, employer development, professional skills development, event planning and access to resources for graduate studies, as well as assisting in the development and facilitation of career-based programming. All duties are developed and executed to accomplish the strategic goals of the department and the mission of the University. This position reports to the Director, Career Development & Internships.

Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, especially with regard to socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, ability/disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity and have a willingness to facilitate the university’s mission to develop global citizens.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement and coordinate internship program and processes for all Soka students under the supervision of the Director of Career Development & Internships. Align students’ internship experience with program-specific and university-wide learning goals.
  • Identify, establish, maintain and promote partnerships and create partnership plans with targeted employers to host internships and conduct site visits. Commitment to equity, inclusion and multicultural competence in support of students’ professional development.
  • Meets with students to provide career counseling and support inclusive of resume and cover letter writing, job and internship search, interviewing preparation, creation of LinkedIn profiles, and career exploration and planning.
  • Assists in the development of stakeholder (students, alumni, faculty, and staff) engagement initiatives and is responsible for their execution and tracking of career counseling appointments. Works closely with the Director, Career Development & Internships to assess programmatic impact including student learning outcomes.
  • Oversees, promotes, and tracks student and alumni use of career services including career-based technologies including, but not limited to InterviewStream, GoinGlobal, LinkedIn and Handshake.
  • Liaises with various campus communities to identify opportunities for integration of Career Service offerings in University services and events. Facilitates career programming accordingly.
  • Assists in developing and facilitating career-based workshops and events (online and on campus). 
  • Assists students/alumni in exploring job and lifelong career development options and provides guidance to build personal decision-making strategies.
  • Identifies and reviews career-based literature and develops relevant career-based handouts and resources for students and posts career-related educational articles on social media.
  • Use of social media to promote Career Services events, activities and overall brand.
  • Gather Career Services activity/participation data for short and long-term strategic planning.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of one-year experience in related field, i.e. Counseling, Human Resources, Career Services, or Career Coaching. Educational background in Career Counseling and/or Human Resources or related field is also preferred.

  • Ability to:
    • Support the University’s Mission, particularly in fostering students to become global citizens committed to living a contributive life.
    • Interact with a diverse student and staff populations and demonstrated experience in the use of cross-cultural counseling skills.
  • Skills should include:
    • A strong customer service delivery, interpersonal skills, creativity, and problem solving.
    • Project and time management skills that enable the accomplishment of many tasks on a concurrent basis.
    • Proficiency in Windows operating environment, along with current Microsoft Office Suite, database management and use of the applications, and researching via the Internet and web-based electronic resources as well as knowledge of social media promotion. Skill in using technology to deliver career-based offerings and develop innovative ways of exceeding students’ needs.
  • High ethical and professional standards.
