Hourly Salary Range:
$20.52 per hour

Job Summary:
The Service Coordinator, Residence Life & Student Housing at Southern Methodist University (SMU), is responsible for the oversight of resident services, keys, and the Move-In and Move-Out processes. The position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Service Desk(s) including supervising up to 100 student staff. The position will provide training and ensure consistent and accurate service. The Service Coordinator oversees move-in and move-out processes, oversees all key activity (physical keys and access cards) and serves as back-up to the Administrative Coordinator.

Essential Functions:
Supervision – Directly supervise up to 100 student leaders and Conference Assistants in their role at the Service Desk(s). Work with their direct supervise to address persistent issues – Ensure the Service Desk(s) is staffed during all applicable hours. Participate in the evaluation process for student staff.

Keys – Oversee all key inventory and perform daily/weekly audits, requesting lock changes as needed. Develop working relationship with Facilities, Ground Maintenance, and the Lockshop. Test all new keys Maintain key data in StarRez system. Audit and stock key cards in applicable locations. Charge students for lock outs and lock changes.

Desk Management – Oversee all aspects of Desk operations during academic year and summer conference season, including ensuring desks are providing accurate information and maintaining detailed records and forms. Answer phones and respond to emails as needed. Perform Desk Assistant duties as needed during break periods and other periods of vacancy.

Administration – Provide backup support to the Administrative Coordinator, including covering absences and lunch periods. Provide customer service support during peak periods. Conduct and organize inventory of residential and departmental assets.

Move In/Out Processing – Process all move in and move out activity in StarRez. Perform follow-up on daily missed check outs. Oversee substantial aspects of the Fall Move-In and Spring Move-Out processes as it relates to check in materials, keys, and other logistics.

Training – Provide appropriate training for student leaders to work effectively at the Service Desk(s). Create manual and training materials.

Department Support – Responsible for serving on department or institutional committees as needed. Provide leadership and support during opening and closing of the residence halls each quarter. Serve as a resource to residents who have questions about housing policies and procedures. Support Housing Office processes. Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

A minimum of one year’s experience in a leadership role (para-professional or professional) within Housing and Residence Life or Student Affairs, or a minimum of one year’s experience in a service-oriented role in a college or university, is required.

Previous university Housing & Residence Life experience is preferred; professional experience. (full-time or graduate level).

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required.

Candidate must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of constituencies.

Must have excellent interpersonal skills as well as a customer service orientation.

Must have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate must have well developed project management skills that include the ability to handle multiple projects.

Candidate must have strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Must be focused on details including appropriate handling of procurement card and purchasing responsibilities.

Position generally works 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
